It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

I am so excited about todays post, as I finally get to share with you some of the crafty touches I have been making for our home this festive season.

For several weeks I have been busy hooking up a storm of crochet snowflakes, using crochet thread, a teeny tiny 2mm hook and the 100 Snowflakes to Crochet book. It is wonderful to see them finally in situ, falling from our mantlepiece and I do smile everytime I come in the room and see them there. It felt good to do something on such a different scale to what I am used to, although it was tough to try and decide which ones to make – I think I might have to work my way through the rest of the book for next year, though I might run out of fireplace!

In between snowflakes I have been making oodles of pom poms. I saw this idea on the front cover of Issue 38 of Homemaker, and I knew I had to do it. I dusted off my trusty pom pom maker and set about some theraputic winding and snipping. It is a very satisfying task to see them pile up, a lovely pile of squishy, woolly goodness. My toddler was very taken with them too, and I had to retrieve a fair nmber from odd corners about that house.

I am very happy with the finished result, though it has already been claimed by my mother-in-law to adorn her room once Christmas is over, and I think it will look just perfect in there.

My favourite make though, and the one that I have been most excited about seeing complete is our biscuity advent tree. A simple frame of wooden sticks bound together with some lovely green twine to make a rustic Christmas tree, ready to decorate. I made a load of round sugar biscuits, and cut the numbers out of them, as well as some bauble shaped ones. I then decorated them with a mix of fonant and piped icing, and strung them up with some embroidery thread.

I am sure that this is going to become part of our family tradition , and I look forward to Alice being able to decorate the biscuits herself in years to come.
